Wildendrem Volume Two: The Saintly Hollows

Today we are thrilled to present the complete map of the Saintly Hollows.

Created by Ripley Matthews, the map encompasses the three regions of Barrowen province, situated just north of the Valley of Flowers. We’re now in the process of numbering the locations and adding travel times for each route.

We hope you love the results of Ripley’s work as much as we do. For us, it feels like this setting we’ve spent so much time with has just come more fully to life!

Codex PDF Draft & and Updated Timeline

Hello, backers! We've got a big update for you today, but first we want to thank you for your continuing support and patience as we work to get these books into your hands.

Codex PDFs

We're extremely pleased to announce that we have a draft of The Wildendrem Codex to share with you today. We've just uploaded page and full-spread versions to BackerKit, and they should be available to you for download now.

This version of the Codex contains descriptions of Wildendrem's provinces, all twenty character backgrounds, an extensive array of tables and lists to help flesh out your Wildendrem campaign, and a complete starting adventure, The Moaning Midden of Cudwick, playtested and ready to run.

Other sections of the Codex are still in the works, including the introductory text, a brief history/overview of Wildendrem, designers' notes, etc. You'll also note places where art is missing, and don't be surprised if you find a few typos here and there. Rest assured that we will give the final product the highest level of polish and presentation we can.

We Would Love Your Feedback

ESPECIALLY on the backgrounds. Take them for a spin and let us know what your experience is! Please direct all feedback to our email address: [email protected]. This will ensure we don't miss anything.

Timeline

As is probably obvious, we won't be able to deliver these books by our original estimated date. There are a number of reasons for this: health issues, unexpected work obligations, and a key artist dropping out of the project. To be completely transparent, we also underestimated the challenge of working on two books simultaneously. This has been a learning experience for us, and it will certainly inform how we manage projects moving forward.

We also don't want to sacrifice any aspect of our vision for this project, so we are moving our expected publication date to the end of the year. This will give us the time we need to make sure you receive the absolute best version of the books. Rest assured, we are making excellent progress and are very excited to share all the good stuff we've dreamed up for the remainder of The Wildendrem Codex and of course The Saintly Hollows.

Thanks again for your patience and understanding. We'll endeavor to continue updating you monthly, and we will have some cool new things to share soon!

April Update

We have been zipping along with writing, editing, and layout on both books, but for the moment we are keeping our focus on The Wildendrem Codex, because it’s closest to done and we’d like to get PDFs to you ASAP. So here’s a breakdown of where we’re at with the Codex:

• Character Backgrounds: All drafted, some editing still needed. All fully illustrated. Here’s a sampling of the art from Amanda Lee Franck.

• Starting Adventure: Text done, with many playtests completed along the way. Layout about 50% complete. Maps finished (see Cudwick town map below!) with some art still in progress

• Generative Tables: We think these are about 75% complete. We’re proceeding with layout so we can see just how many we can pack into this book.
• Province Descriptions: Drafted, still to be edited. We’re excited to share this first glimpse of the wider world of Wildendrem!
• Oaths & Quests, Wildendrem History, etc.: These are all in The Valley of Flowers, but we’re still hoping to expand them a little for the Codex.
  
  Once the Codex is done and PDFs are distributed, we’ll turn our attention back to The Saintly Hollows, at which point we’ll also reassess our timeline. Thanks as always for your support and enthusiasm for this project—it means so much to us.

February Update

Last week we finished distributing PDFs of The Valley of Flowers and Dethroners to those who backed for them or chose them as add-ons. If your pledge included either of those books, you should have received a link from DriveThruRPG. If you haven’t, please message us directly, thanks!

(Edited to add: Please note that the PDFs for The Wildendrem Codex and The Saintly Hollows have not been distributed. Those books are still very much in progress—see below!)

Codex Progress

We’ve been focusing most of our attention on completing The Wildendrem Codex, and it’s coming along nicely.

The character backgrounds are fully drafted. Some need more testing and editing, but in the meantime Amanda Lee Franck has inked illustrations for all twenty, and she’ll be coloring them soon.

Here are black and white versions of two of the backgrounds: the Unsavory Sort and the Wandering Scholar.

We’re deep into the generative tables now, with about half of them drafted. The introductory adventure, The Moaning Midden of Cudwick, is edited and layout is underway, with maps and more art also in the works.

Our hope remains to get the PDFs of the Codex out to everyone a month or two early, and so far we’re on track to do so. Of course we haven’t been completely ignoring The Saintly Hollows itself—but more on that in a future update.
